Education

One of the brightest spots for those moving into the area with school-age children is the Highland School District.

The District became a reality in 1962 following a favorable consolidation vote in Hardy and Ash Flat.  A new high school was built between the two cities.  The growth of the area percipitated the building of the Cherokee Village Elementary school in 1968 and seven years later, with the growth continuing, the Highland Middle School was constructed next to the high school

Today, the Highland School District covers an area of 261 square miles and is the 45th largest school district in the state of Arkansas.

Highland Schools have an excellent student-teacher ratio and offer a complete curriculum.  They are all accredited by the North Central Association.

Extra curricular activities are also a big part of the education program at Highland Schools and the sports propgrams at the High School have placed the Highland High School Rebels in the championship spotlight a number of times.

Higher Education

Within easy driving distance from Cherokee Village are several options for continuing education and adult education.

Ozarka College opened its doors in 1975 in Melbourne as a vocational technical school and has grown each year since.  Now, with satellite campuses in Mountain View and Ash Flat, the school has over 950 students.
